CDV Requirements
Up

Network Operating System

Windows 200X Server (11 or more concurrent accesses), or  Windows 2000 SP4 or XP SP1 Professional.  Simple File Sharing at a minimum must be implemented on the computer hosting CDV computer as the CDVIMGS folder will be shared for others to access over the network.

Pointing Device

Mouse or Track ball

RAM

512MB or more for Windows 200X Server & 256MB/512MB for Windows 2000 Pro or XP Pro.  All manufacturer's recommendations for sizing RAM for the network operating system should be implemented.

Hard Drive Storage Capacity (available)

Multiply the number of CDs by 700MB and multiply the number of DVDs by 4096MB to get the amount of hard drive storage you will need for images.  100MB is required for the CDV programs and files

Network Interface Card

100 Mbits/sec Minimum.  If more than one server is installed at the site, all servers should be plugged into the same hub or switch if you wish to maintain fast response times from all servers.

Backup Device and Backup Scheduling Software

Either tape or disc removable media of sufficient capacity to backup all program and data files for CDV and your other valuable data.  Backup should be done on a daily basis when no one is using CDV.  IF CDV is considered to be a non-critical application to your organization, do not backup the image files or the program.

Auxiliary Power and Power Regulation

An uninterruptible battery backup unit that provides power regulation must be installed for the fileserver and hubs/switches/routers.  Failure to do so may result in lost data!

  Video

A minimum resolution of 800x600 pixels and 256 colors are required to view programs on Windows 200x and XP computers.  1024x768 resolution and 65,356 colors is recommended.

Workstations

Windows 98 and above that are members of the same workgroup as the CDV computer for peer-to-peer networks or the same domain.
