System Requirements
SCOOPS
is a multiple-user system capable of running as single-user software. Your
license determines how many users can access the SCOOPS software at the
same time. If you are running SCOOPS in a multi-user setting, the SCOOPS
programs and data tables must reside on a standalone computer functioning as a
fileserver. No other multi-user environment is supported at this time.
Fileserver Requirements
Workstation Requirements
Printer Requirements
Failure to implement recommended configuration
minimums will void SCOOPS technical support. Under no circumstances will
support for hardware and/or other software, including the operating system be
provided except as it specifically applies to SCOOPS. The determination
of applicability rest solely with the SCOOPS technician.
Network Operating System and Operating System support is available at additional
cost. You will be given the option to continue with support if this type of
support is deemed necessary, or terminate the call.

Processor |
Pentium III 350Mhz or higher |
|
Network Operating System |
Windows NT Server 4.0 w/ SP6a, Windows 2000
Server, or Novell Netware 4.2 or Higher |
|
Pointing Device |
Mouse or Track ball |
|
RAM |
128MB Minimum/256MB Recommended for
Windows NT Server 4.0, 256MB or more for Windows NT 2000 Server, and 128MB
or more for Novell Netware. All manufacturer's recommendations for sizing
RAM for the network operating system should be implemented. |
|
Hard Drive Storage Capacity (available) |
1-3 Users - 400+MB; 4-10 Users 800+MB,
11-20 Users 2000+MB (These are only estimates. If your business generates
a lot of transactions, double and even quadruple the space available.) |
|
Network Interface Card |
100 Mbits/sec Minimum. If more than one
server is installed at the site, all servers should be plugged into the
same hub or switch if you wish to maintain fast response times from all
servers. |
|
Backup Device & Backup Scheduling
Software |
Either tape or disc removable media of
sufficient capacity to backup all program and data files for SCOOPS and
your other valuable data. Backup should be done on a daily basis when no
one is using SCOOPS. |
|
Auxiliary Power and Power Regulation |
An uninterruptible battery backup unit
that provides power regulation must be installed for the fileserver and
hubs/switches/routers. Failure to do so may result in lost data! |
|
Video |
A minimum resolution of 800x600 pixels
and 256 colors are required to view programs on Windows NT fileservers.
SCOOPS should NOT be run on the fileserver. Always access SCOOPS
from a workstation. |
|
Processor |
Pentium III 350Mhz or higher (AMD and
Cyrix processors are not recommended or supported at this time.)
166MHz Pentium processors handle SCOOPS, but with a noticeable
speed decrease. |
|
Operating System |
Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0 Workstation or
NT 2000 Professional. Windows ME is not a business operating
system and is not supported. |
|
Pointing Device |
Mouse or Track ball |
|
RAM |
32MB Minimum Windows 95, 64+MB
for Windows 98 & NT 4.0 Workstation and 128+MB for Windows 2000
Professional |
|
Hard Drive Storage Capacity
(available) |
100MB |
|
Network Interface Card |
100 Mbits/sec Minimum. |
|
Auxiliary Power and Power Regulation |
An uninterruptible battery backup unit
that provides power regulation should be installed for each workstation
that updates SCOOPS data tables. Failure to do so may result in lost
data! DO NOT PLUG PRINTERS INTO THE BATTERY BACKUP UNIT! |
|
Video |
Video resolution must be set at
800x600 pixels or above and colors must be 16000 or higher (256 colors
will give you washed-out graphics on the screen). The Windows
System Tray should be set to Auto hide. A 17" or
larger SVGA monitor is recommended for viewing comfort. |
SCOOPS
has been designed to use laser printers
with a minimum resolution setting of 600x600 pixels. Using a laser printer with
300x300 pixels is possible but will result in poor graphic images. All reports
are designed to fit on an 8.5" x 11" page. Both portrait and landscape
reports are generated. DO NOT attempt to use a top-feed laser printer as they
misalign paper 50% of the time. We have found the HP® LaserJet® IV and later
to work very well.
Ink jet printers are not supported under any circumstances. Technical
support will not be available for these types of printers. They do not have
sufficient print area available to print reports, checks, etc., and the cost of
ink cartridges remains too high in our opinion. We will customize reports for
you, but you may find the cost prohibitively expensive.
Dot matrix printers (impact printers) are not recommended because of
their slowness, but are supported for pre-printed checks, invoices and purchase
orders.
